Preserving the OG Beach Life State of Mind™: Why We Support The Nature Conservancy

This weekend, I made a personal donation to The Nature Conservancy—a nonprofit I’d heard about for years but never fully understood until now. After diving into their mission and impact, I walked away with a deeper appreciation for what it truly means to preserve not just land and water, but a legacy. A legacy that we at Getaway Culture Company call the OG Beach Life State of Mind™.

At Getaway Culture Company, our love for lush landscapes, sun-drenched coasts, and the calming rhythm of nature is more than aesthetic—it’s ancestral, spiritual, and essential. And organizations like The Nature Conservancy (TNC) are doing the quiet but crucial work of protecting these spaces for future generations.

🌊 What is The Nature Conservancy?

The Nature Conservancy is a globally respected environmental nonprofit working in over 80 countries to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. With a deep commitment to transparency (they’re accredited by the Better Business Bureau and hold high marks in nonprofit accountability), their approach is practical, science-backed, and people-powered.

Instead of waiting for governments or investors to "maybe" do the right thing, TNC buys land directly—often properties no longer considered "valuable" by the public—to ensure they don’t fall into the hands of developers or private investors who would strip them for profit.

This model flips the script: What the world writes off, TNC restores.

🌍 By the Numbers: What They've Saved So Far

Here’s just a glimpse of the real, measurable change they’ve made:

  • 125 million acres of land conserved globally

  • More than 5,000 miles of rivers protected

  • 100+ marine conservation projects across key ocean habitats

  • Working to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030 through a combination of purchase, policy, and partnership

They don’t just protect nature—they restore ecosystems, rewild habitats, and partner with Indigenous communities and local farmers to keep Earth’s lungs breathing.

🐚 Can You Visit the Land?

Yes! Many of TNC’s preserved lands are open to the public. You can hike, walk, birdwatch, and enjoy untouched coastlines. Some locations are still undergoing regeneration, but the majority are accessible and marked as protected nature reserves. It’s a living reminder that land doesn't have to be "used" in a capitalist sense to be profoundly valuable.

🔮 What Happens to the Land in the Future?

TNC’s future-focused vision includes:

  • Rewilding efforts to bring back native species

  • Climate resilience strategies to buffer against rising seas and natural disasters

  • Community partnerships that empower local stewardship

  • Carbon offset programs and regenerative agriculture models

  • Protecting sacred lands for Indigenous sovereignty and cultural preservation

It’s about balance, not just protection. About healing land, not hoarding it.

👩‍🌾 Who Makes it Possible?

TNC’s work is powered by donors, volunteers, scientists, conservationists, and everyday folks who believe in legacy. From forest firefighters and reef divers to Indigenous leaders and field researchers, it’s a collective of Earth’s protectors—people who haven’t forgotten how to listen to the land.

And that includes us.

🌴 Why We Give: The Beach Life State of Mind™ in Action

Here at Getaway Culture Company, we’re proud members of 1% for the Planet—an international network of businesses committed to donating 1% of annual revenue to vetted environmental and social causes. That means every Jetsetter Kit, Beach Babe bag, or head spa service you support is also supporting changemakers like TNC.

We believe in beauty rituals that honor our roots, in travel that gives more than it takes, and in self-care that nourishes both people and the planet.

By preserving wild coastlines, protected forests, and marine sanctuaries, The Nature Conservancy helps protect the original inspiration behind our Beach Life State of Mind™:A rhythm of life that is slow, intentional, healing, and whole. It’s a lifestyle grounded in Earth’s natural abundance—not in burnout, overconsumption, or the false urgency of hustle culture.

We invite you to check out The Nature Conservancy, plan a visit to one of their public preserves, or make a small donation if it feels aligned. Whether you’re soaking in a hair ritual at home or walking barefoot through preserved coastal lands, we hope you’ll pause to remember the Earth that holds you—and how we can hold her back.

Here’s to keeping the OG Beach Life State of Mind™ alive.

With ocean love,

Hannah Stringfellow
